REFSQ’11 wants you to have a pleasant stay and easy ways to the different locations. Directions in Essen normally are quite short. It just takes you about 5 minutes from the main station to the conference venue by public transport system.

No matter which means of transport you choose you will easily reach the city of Essen and the different locations.
Arrival by plane
Next airport to Essen is Düsseldorf International (DUS). From the arrival at Terminals A, B and C take the SkyTrain to Düsseldorf Airport Station. Go on with one of several trains to Essen HBF (Essen Main Station) like the RE1, RE2, RE6 or S1. It will take you about 30min to 1h.
Other airports like Dortmund (DTM) or Köln-Bonn (CGN) are good alternatives but not the nearest. Have a look at the online trip planner of VRR, our local public transport provider to find your connection. Once reached Essen Main Station follow the directions in Essen below.

Directions in Essen
The conference will take place in Atlantic Congress Hotel Messe Essen directly to the trade fair, the event hall Gruga Halle and the public recreation areal Grugapark. The social dinner will be located at the DAMPFE – Das Borbecker Brauhaus a traditional German brewery in Essen Borbeck. The workshop location will be at paluno – The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology that is part of the University of Duisburg-Essen and located near to the city center of Essen.

How to get there
From Essen Main Station take the underground U11 (direction: Essen Messe West-Süd/Gruga) from platform 2. It will only take about 5 minutes to the station Essen Messe Ost/Gruga-Halle where you have to leave the train and stay right to exit B, Messe/Gruga Grugahalle. The Atlantic Conference Hotel is directly in front of you (about 150m to walk). On your way back to the main station please take U11 directed to Gelsenkirchen Buerer Straße.
Dampfe – Das Borbecker Brauhaus (social dinner location)
There will be a shuttle bus for the social dinner. You find more information about it on the social dinner page. Those who cannot or do not want to use this service can indivually plan their directions with the following informations.

How to get there

How to get there
From main station take the Straßenbahn 106 (direction: Altenessen Bhf) or the Straßenbahn 107 (direction: Gelsenkirchen Hbf). Depart at the second stop “Viehofer Platz”. Take the exit to the left (Gerlingstraße), ride up the stairs and walk left down the pedestrian bridge. Walk along Gerlingstraße past the bus stop. You find the paluno building on your right.
